We facilitate citizen engagement and advocate for our communities.

The City of Atlanta Neighborhood Planning Unit system, created in 1974 by Mayor Maynard Jackson, provides a direct channel of communication between City of Atlanta departments and citizens. Our partnerships include working with City Planning, Mayor’s Office of Special Events, License Review Board, Atlanta Police Department, Atlanta Fire and Rescue, Code Enforcement, DPW, and our elected officials including the Mayor, Atlanta City Council, and Fulton County.

NPU-E represents Ansley Park, Ardmore Park, Atlantic Station, Brookwood, Brookwood Hills Community Club, Georgia Tech, Home Park, Loring Heights, Marietta Street Artery, Midtown, and Sherwood Forest.

NPU Engagement Survey

The City of Atlanta’s NPU Division is conducting a survey to learn more about how we engage with our NPU and the City of Atlanta NPU Division programming. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey and help shape the future of our city’s official community engagement channel.

Please submit by Sunday, August 27th.

Get to know what we do.

Every month, NPUs are tasked with reviewing proposed legislation, zoning applications, special event permits and liquor licenses to provide vital community feedback. The NPU discusses each application and the NPU-E Board votes in support or opposition. This vote is formally submitted to the City of Atlanta. NPU recommendations are considered by zoning and licensing boards when issuing the permit or license to an applicant.

It is in these moments that we can effect change. We can use our voice to advocate for our member communities.

Get into the review flow.

NPU-E is one of the highest volume NPUs in the City of Atlanta. Due to our sizable agendas each month, we ask applicants to work with the member neighborhood where the business or permit resides in advance of our NPU meeting. This allows each applicant to dig into the details of their zoning request, event or business operation with the local civic association for the best possible result. Collaboration is the name of the game. After working together, the applicant presents to NPU-E and the neighborhood NPU-E Board Member makes their recommendation. NPU-E Board Members can request further discussion and then a vote is taken.
